Employers Visit Students at Beechcliffe School

Students at Beechcliffe School in Keighley were recently visited by a number of employers who brought along a task associated with their workplace for the students to complete.

Rob Slater, deputy headteacher at the school said: “It was an opportunity for our students to take part in a careers session with a difference, working with real employers to develop their employability skills ready for the workplace and preparation for adult life.”

The event was organised by Bradford Council’s Xperience Team, which is part of SkillsHouse.  Catherine Halliwell who manages the team said: “We took the workplace to the school which enabled the students to take part in hands-on tasks that an employee would usually do. It was a great way for the young people to gain an understanding of real life job roles and the tasks involved.”

The employers involved in the event included Balfour Beatty, MyDentist Keighley, Herncliffe Care Home, Bradford Council and hairdressers from Keighley College.

Rachael Davies, Social Sustainability Specialist at Balfour Beatty said: “It was great to meet with the students of Beechcliffe School to encourage them to consider a career in the construction and infrastructure sector and help them develop their employability skills.

“Through these sessions, we hope to inspire the next generation of skilled workers and provide insight into our industry for young people who may not otherwise have considered a career in this area, showcasing the wide range of exciting, life-long career opportunities available.”

Cllr Imran Khan, Bradford Council’s portfolio holder for education, employment and skills, said: “It is great to see local and national businesses playing an active role in supporting our young people with their career decisions. Our young people are the workforce of the future and we want them to find careers that allow them to thrive and help our district thrive too.”

We'd like to say a huge thank you to the organisations involved in making this happen.  If you're an employer who would like to offer their time to take part in similar events, please Contact Us
